I am probably a bit slow to the party on this one (in fact I know I am because I found this technique on a YouTube from 2015!) – but splattering glue around and adding glitter over the top is such an easy but super pretty technique.
I found a YouTube video by Kelly Acheson over at A Stamp Above and she made these gorgeous cards using sponging, trees, a flying santa and glitter – how could this not turn out gorgeous! I have done a similar card before – actually I think it was one of the first cards I made. The cards Kelly made were actually quite similar, however she used a huge moon and added the glitter, and I think this took them to the next level. They were so pretty! Thank you Kelly 🙂
So – I waited until I put the kids to bed and sat down to have some ‘me time’. I sponged 4 background pieces in 4 different colour combos:
- Dapper Denim, Sweet Sugarplum and Fresh Fig (similar to the first card I made)
- Crumb Cake, Daffodil Delight, Peekaboo Peach and Pumpkin Pie (A similar combo to another one in the series shown on Kelly’s blog – honestly you should check out her work, amazing!).
- Night of Navy
- Tempting Turquoise & Pacific Point
The moon is masked using a 2.5″ circle – the only circle punch larger than 1″ that I owned. The flying santa stamp comes from a retired Stampin’ Up set called ‘Holiday Home’. The trees come from a Kaisercraft set, I actually don’t like how this tree stamps at all – I really should just order Lovely as a Tree from Stampin’ Up!
Onto the splattered glittered – I had tried to add glitter before to things with no luck. It always looks a bit funny, or gluey or both. As per Kelly’s YouTube, this time i mixed some liquid adhesive with some water and then flicked it at the backgrounds. Before it dried I sprinkled dazzling diamonds glitter over the card – and the glitter only sticks to the glue.
This results in a really random splattering of glitter, sometimes there are a few more clumpy sections but it doesn’t look staged at all. It just looks like shimmering snow. Which is nothing like christmas here in Australia – but hey – everyone is dreaming of a white christmas aren’t they?
Which colour is your favourite? Leave me a comment and let me know what you think.
