Today’s cards feature the Cookie Cutter Christmas stamp set and the coordinating Cookie Cutter builder punch. I made them as a set of two as I couldn’t decide whether to feature Santa himself or the cute Gingerbread person.
The reason that this post is titled ‘The Magical Punch’ is because that is what my four year old calls this punch. Because (in his words) “it looks like a person but it can actually punch out Santa, an Eskimo, a Gingerbread person, a teddy bear and a Reindeer!” He is quite amazed at this, and I too love this punch and stamp set.
The layout for the cards came from the Holiday catalogue and a card that is featured in the Country Lane suite on page 42.
Instead of making a ‘Thanks’ card I decided to make it a christmas card. I started with a Real Red card base and added a strip of DSP from the All is Bright DSP pack. The Santa is stamped in black and then coloured using Stampin’ Blends. The Gingerbread person is stamped in Soft Suede and has a Real Red bow tie. They are both propped up on a whisper white stitched circle.
The sentiment is stamped on a piece of crumb cake card, and I have added a piece of Call Me Clover behind this. Finally I used the chicken wire elements in the background to add some extra interest and to stay true to the layout I was CASEing.
When I am putting together a card I tend to lay things out before I glue them down. When I was playing with the layout I realised that my Santa and Gingerbread person were much smaller than the flowers in the card I was CASEing so the overall relative dimensions looked a bit off. In the end I decided to trim the cards down, so the card fronts ended up being 14.85cm wide (as normal) but only 9cms tall (instead of 10.5cm). I think this looks a lot better for the size of the elements I have used.
