It is a dreary rainy weekend here in Perth, so I decided to try a new technique I had seen – it’s not actually new, just new to me. In involves rubbing alcohol, glossy card stock and re-inkers. I got a tad carried away with the background pieces I made, but it was a lot of fun.

The background pieces were so quick and easy to produce. I put some rubbing alcohol onto a cotton wool ball, added some drops of re-inker and then ‘painted’ the glossy card stock with the cotton wool. Some of the pieces i pounced and dabbed the cotton wool, some I swiped and some I swirled. My entire workspace was filled with coloured card as I kept trying different colour combos and application techniques. I cannot wait to use these pieces on other cards in the future. Sorry about the glare in the photo below – but as I mentioned it is wet and miserable here so I could go outside to take photos.

For a couple of pieces I picked the colour combo based on this weeks Just Add Ink Challenge. The inspiration photo for this week’s challenge is shown below – and for me it was the colours that stood out.

  The colours I picked out were Bermuda Bay, Melon Mambo, Daffodil Delight and Peekaboo Peach – these were the colours I used in my background. To make the background I put a few drops of all four colours onto a piece of cotton wool (keeping them seperate) and swiped down the card.

My unicorn is coloured in the same four colours using Stampin Write markers. The sentiment is actually stamped in a new colour, Grapefruit Grove (I love this new colour!), and the matting piece is also in Grapefruit grove. I thought that this actually matched quite nicely with the peekaboo peach once it dried on the glossy card stock. The unicorn is set on top of a stitched circle that I coloured with Bermuda Bay using Stampin Blends, and a foil snowflake that I found already coloured on my desk – I think it must be in Rich Razzleberry.

This card is incredibly bright and cheerful – so I think it will go in the stash of cards that my 4 year old can give to his friends on their birthdays throughout the year.

Update – this card earned me 1st Place in the design challenge this week! Feeling pretty happy with that 🙂
