This is a very special blog post today – as I was invited to be a guest designer on the Paper Adventures Team Blog Hop! I was so delighted to be asked to join in, this is an amazingly talented group of crafters. The theme this month is ‘Christmas’, but I have taken a bit of a non-traditional approach. The weather is finally starting to get warmer here in Western Australia (give it a few weeks and we will be complaining about the heat!), but this card is inspired by the early snow I have been reading about in parts of the USA. I started with a piece of whisper white and stamped the tree image and the ‘snow’ (dotty) image from the Waterfront stamp set in clear versamark ink. I then heat embossed in white. I used my sponge brayer to layer on some colours, lightest at the top working down to darkest at the bottom. For the blue/green card I used Pool Party, Balmy Blue and Blueberry Bushell – I adore this colour combination, I think they work beautifully together. For the pink version I used Blushing Bride, Flirty Flamingo and Lovely Lipstick. After brayering on the colour, I used a tissue to kind of buff (rub) over where I had embossed. This removes any of the ink colour and leaves the white images a little glossy. This technique is called the emboss resist technique. The frame that I layered over the top of the coloured panel is from the Delightfully Detailed Laser-Cut Speciality Paper. This paper is so delicate that I often hesitate to use it, but the pre-sectioned panels are so easy to use, and a quick and simple way to start using this paper pack. I mounted this framed panel onto a layer of Pool Party / Blushing Bride card stock before adhering to a thick whisper white card base. I was a bit stumped as to where to place the sentiment, but in the end decided on a simple banner. The sentiment comes from the Dashing Deer stamp set, again I heat embossed this in white.
