Mother’s Day in the UK

Mother’s Day is approaching in the UK and so this card is for my Mum. I know she gets these blog post emails, so Mum – if you want a surprise don’t click the link! Everyone else – read on!

Update: This card was lucky enough to give me Win in the Just Add Ink Challenge! Yay 🙂

In my box of goodies I received last week was a Big Shot machine. This is something I had been eying off for ages. My secret santa had given me money for it, but I have waited until now to order it, mostly because it meant I could do one big order including my new positioning tool – the Stamparatus – and get the maximum amount of freebies during Sale-A-Bration.

I knew I wanted to make a Mother’s Day card for my Mum. Truth be told I have a reminder in my phone for UK Mother’s Day as I live in Australia and Mother’s Day for us is in May. The card uses the Blossoming Basket Bundle – which I received completely free! The bundle consists of the stamp set and a Basket Weave Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. What does that mean exactly? It means the embossed pattern is almost 3D like. I put the card through the Big Shot and when I take it out I cannot stop touching the card. It is stunning, and it will be carrying over to the 2018-2019 Annual Catalogue.

I stamped the basket of flowers onto a piece of shimmery white card. I used the shimmery white card instead of regular whisper white because I used Aqua Painters to colour the flowers, and the shimmery white card takes water a little better.

The card essentially uses only 3 colours – White, Berry Burst and Crumb Cake. The reason for that was because that was the Just Add Ink challenge for this week. Well actually the challenge suggested Sahara Sand, but I didn’t have that colour so I improvised with Crumb Cake which is pretty close.

I used my aqua painter to colour the basket using crumb cake and the flowers in Berry Burst. I ummed and aahed about using green on the leaves, but in the end I stayed true to the colour scheme and also used crumb cake for them. I actually think the colours look really pretty together. The sentiment is from the same Blossoming Basket set, and I have stamped it in Berry Burst.

I used a crumb cake card base, and I embossed directly onto the front panel using the basket weave folder – stunning! I adhered a piece of Berry Burst slightly off square and then put my stamped and coloured image on top of this. It’s important when you are doing this kind of matting that the top image is square. Otherwise it can easily look wonky.

I finished it off with a small bow in whisper white ribbon (this is retired but I picked it up on the clearance rack a little while back) and some wink of stella on the flowers (which you can rarely see in photos, but you can image the shimmer I’m sure).

For the inside I stuck a whisper white panel and stamped some small butterflies (also from the Blossoming Basket set) into the corners.

What do you think? I hope she likes it.

  1. This is so gorgeous Shannon, and I’m sure your Mum will love it! Your roses have a beautiful depth of colour and dimension and I love your design and the pop of the Berry between the layers. Thanks for sharing with us at Just Add Ink this week.

  2. This is really lovely Shannon! Your flowers are beautifully soft and vibrant on the shimmer cardstock, and the basket weave texture really does give your base a wow factor. I’m sure your Mum will love it! Thanks for joining us at Just Add Ink this week.
