CTC243 – Cupcake Toppers

Welcome to this week’s CASEing the Catty Design Challenge. Tonight we are turning cards into 3D projects.

For tonight’s project, you could really be inspired by lots of layouts in the catalogue, and almost any stamp set. But I was first drawn to the simple idea of a circle and a punched image as shown in the crumb cake hot air balloon card above.

I wanted to share something I have done many times in the past, and it gives you just one more way to use your supplies – and that is making cake decorations. Tonight I am sharing cupcake toppers, but using some fancy skewers and some of our larger word die cuts, you could also make full size cake toppers.

When making cupcake toppers, especially if making them for a party you generally need a few – so my suggestion here is to pick stamps that can either be punched out, or where you are able to die cut multiples at once.

My first batch used the Wiggle Worm bundle. I stamped all the bug images at the same time using the stamparatus, coloured them in and then die cut them all in one hit. The circles I mounted them on were punched out, 2 circles per topper, sandwiched together with a toothpick in between – Easy Peasy!

The second batch I did using the ‘For The Win’ stamp set. Again – I was able to stamp these all at once, and then used a circle punch to cut them out (with the exception of the rugby ball, which I fussy cut.

For both of these options you could save yourself a step and stamp directly onto the front circle, avoiding the need to die cut and use dimensional all together. We have so many great stamp sets and dies, you could literally decorate cup cakes for almost any occasion. After I had done this (and the cup cakes were long gone….) I thought it would have been super cute to do a topper consisting of the half shell die cut in the Dino Days suit, with a little dino peaking out the top. Something like the bottom half of the image on the card below.

So what do you think of tonight’s project? What set do you think would make for cute cake decorations? Just so you know….I have it on good authority from a certain Mr 3 that the cake toppers definitely make the cake taste even better!

Next up tonight is the amazingly talented Siobhan, you are going to love what she is sharing!

I would absolutely love to see what you are up to at your craft desk this week, why not join in with our challenge! Just upload a quick pic to our facebook page – link below.
