I have a baby shower coming up and I needed to make a card for the parents-to-be.  I had scanned Pinterest for some ideas and I thought I would make some small dresses (it’s a baby girl) using the owl punch. It started simple….and escalated from there! This card also ties in well with the Global Design Project challenge this week – which has the theme word ‘Family Time’. For the recipients of this card, their family time is just about to begin.

I had seen some really cute cards that opened up to show a baby cot (crib), but most of the blogs I found with instructions used an electronic cutting machine (where you could send it a design and it cuts it out). There was another where you could buy a template but it looked to use some punches etc that I didn’t have to I decided to just create my own template. I have uploaded it here – hopefully it makes enough sense to be useful, feel free to drop me a comment or email if you have questions.

For the front of the card, I punched out the three dresses using the vest piece in the Stampin’ Up Owl Builder Punch. I decorated them with some bling I had and stuck them on circles using a dimensionals. The circles are popped up on dimensionals onto a piece of Pink Pirouette DSP (retired) which is then matted on a piece of gold foil paper. I should point out here that this panel was supposed to be centred on the card….but I was using fast fuse adhesive and I didn’t get it quite right. With fast fuse there is no going back – Oh Well!

I stamped the Hello There sentiment – from the (retired) ‘Hello There’ stamp set from Stampin’ Up – in VersaMark and then embossed it in gold to tie – looks very pretty in real life.

For the inside of the card, I made the popup crib as per the instructions that I have linked to above. I used a 2 3/8″ scallop punch to decorate the ends of the cot. I also prettied it up with the same DSP I used on the front and the small love heart punch (also from the Owl Builder Punch). I stuck the cot to the back of the card first, and then added adhesive to the end and closed the card over to attach it. This ensures it lines up well.

I created the mobile using a some punched stars hung with cotton from a strip of gold paper. I folded the strip into a rectangular shape and stuck it in the corner of the card – similar to the cot – using adhesive on two sides so it too popped out and folded down.

For the chest of drawers I used a 3″ x 3″ piece of whisper white, cut a rectangle out of the bottom to make the legs and then stuck 3 strips of DSP onto it to make the drawers. For the drawers I only used glue on the ends so that I was able to tuck some clothes into it at the end.

I have left a blank section at the end of the cot so that I can write my message.
